BUFFALO, N.Y.— Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) set a new career-high with 31 points, while matching a school-record with seven made 3-pointers, but it was not enough as Oneonta finished 5 of 7 from the free-throw line in the final minute to escape with a 78-74 win in SUNYAC action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Villarini shot 10 of 16 from the floor and 7 of 8 from distance to go along with four rebounds and four assists.
  • Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) chipped in 21 points on 12 of 14 shooting from the charity stripe.
  • Tori Hackett (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Kendall Mills (Buffalo/Kenmore East) finished with eight points on 2 of 4 shooting from distance.
  • Buffalo State and Oneonta matched each other in the opening minutes until a late 10-1 gave the Red Dragons a 17-8 lead at the first intermission.
  • The Bengals closed the gap in the second stanza, outscoring Oneonta 27-19, and used a late jumper from Hackett and free throw from LeBaron to trim the deficit to 36-35 at halftime.
  • Buffalo State reclaimed a 38-36 lead on a 3-pointer by Villarini on the team's first possession and held a slim lead until Oneonta closed the quarter on a 9-5 run to claim a 53-50 lead at the final intermission.
