Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brockport drops semi-final rematch to Oneonta, 87-83

ONEONTA, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's basketball team lost their first State University of Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game of the year against a tough Oneonta State opponent, 87-83. The match-up was a rematch of the SUNYAC semi-final game from the previous year.

The Golden Eagles record falls to 4-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. The Red Dragons move to 4-2 on the season and also sit at 1-1 in league standings.

Brockport got off to a strong start in the beginning of the contest using seven points by senior guard, Hamed Shamseldin and four points from sophomore forward Justin Summers to take an 11-6 lead in the first five minutes. The red dragons mounted a run that tied the game at 13 before taking the lead at the 10-minute mark of the first half. A few minutes later, the Green and Gold found themselves down 20-14, but key marksmanship by Dwayne Daniel and Josh Nelson from three, tied the game up at 20. The unit was unable to tie or take the lead for the remainder of the first half and found themselves down 39-33 heading into the break.

Heading into the second half, Daniel hit a three pointer that cut the lead to three in the first couple minutes, but the red dragons did a good job of fighting off the constant attack that the Green and Gold tossed at them. Brockport continued to scrap with key made shots by Daniel, Shamseldin and Michael O'hara that cut the deficit to just three on multiple occasions, including with 10 seconds left. Unfortunately, the runs were not enough as the team lost for just the second time this season, 87-83.

Shamseldin led the team in scoring with 28 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the charity stripe, while grabbing seven rebounds. Summers followed a career night with another double-double that included 19 points and 11 boards. Tyler Collins knocked in 14 points of his own to finish third most on the team.

The Golden Eagles continue conference play on Dec. 8 when they host Plattsburgh State for a 7:30 p.m. Friday night matchup.
