PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team lost both games in their doubleheader against No. 21/24 Oswego State at Chip Cummings Field on Saturday on senior day.
Plattsburgh State falls to 7-20 overall and 1-13 in the SUNYAC while Oswego improves to 20-8, 10-3 in the conference.
GAME ONE: Plattsburgh State 2, Oswego 7
Oswego took a two-run lead after the first inning scoring off a triple to right center and a ground out.
Sophomore
Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) cut the Lakers lead in half in the bottom of the third inning with a double to left center that scored freshman
Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford).
Matz tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when he plated senior
Joe Deland (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East).
Oswego recorded a two-run single up the middle in the top of the sixth, a one-run single to left field in the seventh and a two-run home in the eighth to lead 7-2.
The Lakers defense was able to hold off the Cardinals in the remaining two innings and they took the five-run win.
Junior
Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) pitched 5.2 innings and scattered seven hits, four runs, walked three and struck out two.
Senior
Jacob Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y./ Bay Shore) pitched two innings and gave up three hits, two runs, walked one and struck out one.
Sophomore
Brantley Marion (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) pitched 1.1 innings and gave up three hits and one run.
GAME TWO: Plattsburgh State 0, Oswego 11
The Cardinals pitching staff only gave up one hit in the first two innings and had two of their own.
Oswego had a huge third inning recording eight runs off six hits. The Lakers scored off a one-run double to left center, a two-run single up the middle, a sacrifice fly, another one-run single and a three-run inside the park home run to left field.
Plattsburgh States defense held the Lakers at bay for three innings until the seventh when they logged three more runs off a one-run single to left center and a two-run double to right field.
A rally was not in the cards for Plattsburgh State as they drew a double play in the bottom of the seventh and popped up to the short stop to end the game.
Junior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Junior
Patrick Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) pitched two innings and scattered five hits, four runs, walked one and struck out two.
Junior
Frank Finkbeiner (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) pitched one innings and dispersed two hits, four runs and walked one.
Sophomore
Connor Lyons (Brookhaven, N.Y. / Bellport) pitched three innings and only gave up two hits and struck out three.
Senior
Mitch Crispens (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) pitched one inning and gave up three this, three runs, walked one and struck out one.
Plattsburgh State will finish their series against Oswego Sunday, April 22 at noon.
