Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y. / Orchard Park) earned the 1,000th kill of her career as the Fredonia women's volleyball team improved to 14-7, defeating Houghton 3-1 on Tuesday.
The Highlanders (9-12) took the first set 25-22 before the Devils took the final three sets 26-24, 25-18, and 25-15. "We got stuck in a rotation during the first set and gave up a big run," said head coach
Geoff Braun. "We settled in during the second and really found our rhythm offensively. Our passing was solid."
Stanek led the Devils with 15 kills and three blocks. She now stands at 1,013 kills for her career, ranking her ninth all time.
Kailey Falk (York, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy) added 13 kills and
Hallie Christopher (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) had 37 assists.
Courtney Poirier (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West) had 17 digs, while sister Rachel added 13. Courtney also had three service aces.
The Devils return to Steele Hall this Friday with a tri-match featuring Bethany (W.V.) and St. John Fisher.
