POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - After a back and forth match on the pitch of Gordon Field accumulating 110 minutes of play, the Vassar College men's soccer team tied the No. 5 SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons, Saturday afternoon.

"We were very disappointing today," stated Head Coach
Iain Byrne after the match. "Full credit to Vassar who outplayed us for most of the match and deserved to win the game."

The Brewers offense took a total of nine shots in the first half, led by junior defender Tyler Gilmore to the Red Dragons seven. Vassar had additional scoring opportunities with six corner kicks placed inside the box off the foot of senior midfielder Hayden Van Brewer.

Oneonta (4-0-1) grabbed the early lead in the 11
th minute when rookie
Roberto Ventura (Brentwood/Brentwood) notched his fourth goal of the season. Ventura collected a loose ball inside the box and placed a low, direct drive into the corner of the goal. The Red Dragons took its one-goal lead into halftime.

It didn't take the Brewers (3-2-1) long to tie the score putting the tying goal in less than two minutes into the second half. A direct cross from the right side of the box from senior forward Jose Novas to the foot of junior midfielder Toby Stansell, opened the net for Stansell to take a touch and bury the ball to the lower left corner.

The Brewers outshot the Red Dragons 18-12 in the match while both teams earned six corner kicks each.

Nicholas Giordano (East Northport/Commack) made seven stops while Vassar keeper Will Marment collected four saves.

Oneonta's next opponent is rival SUNY Cortland on the road this Friday to open SUNYAC play.
