Frosh earns first win in split wiith PSB

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Freshman right-hander Lauren Collorone (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) picked up her first career win Tuesday as Fredonia defeated Penn State Behrend, 5-4, in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at Blue Devil Field. The visiting Lions rolled to a 20-2 win in the nightcap.

Collorone pitched two-third of an inning of scoreless relief ahead of two scoreless innings by sophomore right-handler Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint), who picked up his first save of the season. Seegar allowed just one hit over two innings.

Offensively, senior Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) hit her fifth homer of the season -- a two-run shot in the fourth inning -- and added an RBI single to account for three Fredonia runs. Freshman Eva FitzSimmons (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) also had two hits and freshman Megan Maull (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) had a sacrifice fly.

Dennis's single in the fifth brought in the go-ahead run.

Behrend exploded for 23 hits in Game 2 compared to five by Fredonia, including a double and a single by freshman Makenzie Keeler (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). Freshmen Alisa Oppenheimer (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and Amanda Russo (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier) had one RBI each and Dennis had a single to extend her hitting streak to seven games. She has hit safely in 14 of her last 16 games.

Fredonia now heads into its final weekend of the season -- Friday vs. Oswego and Saturday vs. Cortland. Both doubleheaders are at Blue Devil Field.
