Brockport Topples UR Volleyball 3-0

The visiting Brockport Golden Eagles hit exceptionally well and defeated the University of Rochester volleyball team 3-0 on Wednesday evening at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
 
Brockport (6-4) wins its third straight match, taking the win with set victories of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-16.  The loss for Rochester (7-2) snaps a six-match winning streak.
 
In the first set, the host Yellowjackets were unable to generate much offense, matching their seven kills with seven errors, allowing Brockport to breeze to the 25-13 win.  Brockport meanwhile, smashed 11 kills to only three errors in the opening game.
 
The Yellowjackets were able to hang with Brockport throughout the second set staying even until through 13-13 before the Golden Eagles slowly slipped ahead.  UR hit better, 11 kills to six errors (.167) in the second, but so did Brockport, to the tune of 13 kills and four errors (.429) to earn the win.
 
In the third, Rochester continued to improve its offensive numbers, hitting a match best .273 (10 kills, 4 errors), but Brockport continued its hot hitting with 14 kills, two errors on 27 attempts for a .444 percentage.
 
Overall in the match UR hit .129 as a team compared to Brockport's .372.
 
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was Clara Martinez who had seven kills on the night.  Alara Kocak added seven kills of her own while Allie DeRubertis and Beth Ghyzel chipped in three apiece.  Renae Lapins had 14 assists while Ghyzel added 12 and Courtney Vidovich was the dig leader with 12.
 
Brockport's Brianna Richardson led all players with 14 kills, hitting a whopping .591 with only one error on 22 attempts on the night.  Jamie Schlesinger added seven kills while DeAnna Ortiz-Whittemore added six kills of her own.  Cassie Birth had five service aces for the Golden Eagles and Noelle Poloncarz had 30 assists.
 
UR will look to regroup quickly with three matches this Friday and Saturday at the Buffalo State Bengal Challenge.  The 'Jackets play host Buffalo State on Friday night before taking on John Carroll and Fredonia State on Saturday.
