FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia split its Saturday matches during SUNYAC Pool Play at Dods Hall, defeating Cortland before falling to Brockport.
The Blue Devils outlasted Cortland in a Saturday noon match, 3-2, by set scores of 25-13, 16-25, 25-20, 20-25 and 15-11.Â
Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y.) was the Blue Devils top hitter with 18 kills.
Kailey Falk (York, N.Y.) added 14 kills to go with four service aces and 18 digs. Falk shared the team dig lead with
Courtney Poirier (West Seneca, N.Y.). In addition,
Rachel Aiello (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had 15 digs, plus eight kills;
Emma Falk (York, N.Y.) added nine kills; and
Hallie Christopher (East Amherst, N.Y.) was strong offensively with 47 assists and defensively with 12 digs.
Brockport rallied for a 3-2 win in the 5 p.m. match. Fredonia won the first two sets 25-14 and 27-25, only to have the Golden Eagles win the next three by scores of 25-10, 25-22 and 15-10. Kailey Falk connected for 14 more kills while
Emma Falk had nine. Christopher collected 31 assists while
Courtney Poirier had 15 digs and Aiello 10.
The Blue Devils ended the weekend 9-6 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC. Brockport headed home with a weekend sweep for a 3-0 SUNYACÂ start. The Eagles are 9-7 overall.
