Brockport Betters Potsdam, 3-0

Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport volleyball team blanked SUNY Potsdam as they won 3-0 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) final pool play event of the season. The Golden Eagles rise to 17-8 (7-0) in 2017, where the Bears falls to 11-13 (1-6).
 
Brockport fell behind early as Potsdam opened with a 3-0 lead in the first set. The Green and Gold fought to tie the game up 4-4, with back-to-back kills from Laiken Fox. Potsdam pulled ahead on two separate occasions by three points, but Brockport responded each time to stay in the contest. The Golden Eagles took late lead after they strung together a four-point run to set the score at 21-17. Meaghan Mastro closed out game one with a kill to take set one 25-19.
 
Both teams went toe-to-toe in set two trading the first few points of the contest. Brockport doubled their lead midway throughout the contest, with three kills from Mastro to set the score at 14-7. The Golden Eagles maintained their advantage throughout the match and expanded their margin to 19-10, with back-to-back kills from Cassie Birth and Jamie Schlesinger. The Green and Gold held onto their lead and closed out set two by a score of 25-18.
 
The Golden Eagles wasted no time in the third set as they took an early 9-3 advantage. The lead was increased with a three three-point spurt with Brianna Richardson and Birth earning the points for Brockport. The Green and Gold added to their lead on a late three-point rally with kills from Rachel Millington and Richardson to post a 21-15 advantage. Brockport closed out the last set and the match 25-21, on a kill from Kelly Waters.
 
Mastro lead the offense for the Golden Eagles accounting for 10 kills on a .444 hitting percentage, while Birth and Fox notched nine kills each. Noelle Poloncarz paced the offense as she dished out 30 assists. The defense was led by Maddy Taylor totaling 14 digs, where Poloncarz finished with eight and Aimee Spilman tallied seven.
 
Brockport will be back in action tomorrow for day two in the last SUNYAC pool play event of the season, where they face Buffalo State at 12 p.m. and SUNY Cortland at 2 p.m.
