Brockport, NY. The SUNY Oneonta baseball team defeated the Brockport Golden Eagles 11-10 to win the conference series 2-1. The Red Dragons improved to 6-9 in the SUNYAC and the Golden Eagles dropped to 9-9. On the day the Red Dragons had 15 hits including three home runs. Senior
Nicholas Ponesse (Newburgh/Valley Central) earned the win and classmate
James McCarty (Stony Brook/Chaminade) earned his third save.

In the first inning of the game the Red Dragons came out swinging and put up five runs capitalizing on a Golden Eagle error. The Red Dragons rally started with two outs, when
Jonathan Lezette (Saugerties/Saugerties) singled up the middle. The next batter,
Brandon LaVenture (Schenectady/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) put the ball in play causing a blunder by the Brockport second basemen. The next batter walked to load the bases. With the bases juiced,
Mickey Mullins (Vestal/Vestal) singled to center field to plate the first run of the game. The next batter, Michael Graves doubled down the line adding another two runs to bring the score to 3-0. A wild pitch and single by
James Ceparano (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) capped the five run inning for the Red Dragons.

The Red Dragons added another run in the top of the second on a
Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) hit his first of two home runs to bring the score to 6-0. In the top of the next frame, the Red Dragons compiled two hits, a single by
Sean McGlynn (New Hartford/New Hartford) and an RBI triple by
Dalton Beatty (Atwater, CA/Atwater).

The Golden Eagles made a push in 6
th and 7
th inning scoring a combined six runs to bring the score to 10-8. Brockport added another run in the bottom of the 8
th to close the lead to one.

In the top of the 9
th inning, the Red Dragons added an insurance run when Graves singled to right field to score
Brandon Torres (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury). With the score at 10-8, McCarty came in relief in the 9
th inning with one out. He retired the two batters he faced to close out the game.

The Red Dragons continue conference play tomorrow at home on Damaschke Field. They have a three game series with New Paltz starting Friday at 3:00pm.
