Cortland Men Earn 153-104 Dual Victory vs. Visiting New Paltz

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team defeated visiting New Paltz, 153-104, in dual-meet action at Holsten Pool.

The Red Dragons earned 11 individual swimming victories during the meet, including two each by Nick Galeto (West Islip), Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) and Tim Rokos (Duanesburg). Galeto won the 100-yard backstroke (54.99) and 50-yard freestyle (23.10), Bernhardt captured both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:11.05) and 500-yard freestyle (4:58.50), and Rokos won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.38) and 200-yard individual medley (2:06.34), the latter as an exhibition entry.

Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.71) and was second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.86). Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsie/Our Lady of Lourdes) took top honors in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.94) and Josh Chamak (New City/Clarkstown North) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.54).

Noah Farmer (New Hartford) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.16) and Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross) was the winner in the 100-yard butterfly (54.64). Cortland also won the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay as Galeto, Cornelia, Donlevy and Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) finished in 1:40.69, and the Red Dragons had the fastest time as an exhibition entry in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Poli, Mo Diarra (New York/East Side Community), Donlevy and Galeto finished in 1:31.51.

Pat Conway (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial), as an exhibition entry as the meet's lone men's diver, recorded a career-high 254.85 points in six dives on the 3-meter board and missed NCAA regional qualifying standards by less than two points with his 11-dive score of 423.60 points on the 1-meter board.

Poli was second in both the 100-yard backstroke (57.73) and 100-yard freestyle (50.50) and Alex Fisher (Smithtown/Hauppauge) placed second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.29) and 200-yard individual medley (2:06.81 as an exhibition entry). Chamak finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.54) and Donlevy placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.18).

Cortland will host Oswego on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m.
