CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Senior
Ma'Cain Spragling (Akron, OH/Brush) and junior
Migell Ormsby (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) scored goals 22 seconds apart early in the second half to break a 1-1 tie as the nationally 14th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team defeated St. Lawrence, 3-1, in non-conference action Saturday night at the Stadium Complex.
Junior
Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) added a goal and an assist for the Red Dragons (6-1), and sophomore
Miguel Tunas (North Salem) collected an assist. Senior goalie
Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) registered one save.
Junior Brendan McNamee (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) tallied the goal for the Saints (2-3-1). Junior goalie Mike Smith (Syracuse/CBA) made eight saves.
McNamee gave the Saints the lead in the fourth minute with his team-high fifth goal of the season. After a cross was misplaced by Cortland in the box, McNamee took a shot that was stopped by Young. The rebound came right back to McNamee who deposited a shot into the open goal. Keller tied the game in the 37th minute. After a St. Lawrence foul in the box, Smith denied Keller's penalty-kick attempt, but Keller was able to charge to the loose ball and slip a shot under Smith.
Cortland struck quickly in the second half. Just 2:54 into the period, Spragling scored on a header at the far post off a corner kick serve from Tunas. In the 49th minute, Ormsby took a through ball from Keller and beat Smith one-on-one to cap the scoring.
