Box Score Queens, NY - The Red Dragon women's tennis team went on week night trip down to New York on Tuesday, September 12
th and this time defeated the Skyline Conference leaders The Yeshiva Maccabees for their third shutout in a row 9-0.
The Red Dragons have opened their season on quite a tear not having dropped a single set thus far or losing any individual match. The Maccabees were 3-0 before last night's match but took their first defeat of the season from the Red Dragons. The Maccabees were without their two top players so the Red Dragons also sat their top players in singles competition but the Red Dragon onslaught was still too much to handle.
Doubles was a dominant affair for Oneonta as the number one tandem of junior
Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) and freshman Julileta Eulau dropped only two games cruising to an 8-2 triumph. The number two flighted team was senior
Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) and freshman
Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) and they too had no trouble dismantling their foes 8-1 and the third pair of senior
Danielle Swierczyna (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and freshman
Emma Messenger (Marlboro/Marlboro) matched the successes of their teammates and dropped their opponents 8-2.
A commanding 3-0 lead for the SUNY Oneonta Women allowed them the luxury to tweak their singles lineup that saw junior
Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) play out of her usual number three position and held down the top spot winning 6-4, 6-2. Lipscomb playing in the number two spot today also was dominant winning 6-2, 6-0. Felice also had no trouble and was dominant in her 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Messenger had an easy time also winning 6-1, 6-0. Swierczyna was relentless and did not let up as she scored a shutout 6-0, 6-0 victory playing in the number five spot. Freshman
