Brockport Bats Struggle in Series Finale Against Cortland

LEXINGTON, SC – The College at Brockport's baseball team wrapped up their spring break trip with a 5-1 defeat at the hands of SUNY Cortland. The final game of the series started off with a two-hour delay due to thunderstorms.

The Green and Gold now sit at 5-8 on the season and 1-2 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, while the Red Dragons move to 9-6 and 2-1 in conference competition.

The Golden Eagles started another game behind after the opposition scored two runs in the first. The Brockport bats were quiet for the first five innings of the contest, but they got on the board in the sixth inning starting with a single to center field by Charlie Serino. Serino advanced to third on back-to-back ground ball outs and was then brought home by Tom Kretzler, who singled through the right side. The RBI brings Kreztler's total to 13 on the season.

Alex Brown got the start on the mound and despite a rocky first inning, he was able to get in a groove in the second and third, getting out six of the seven batters he faced. The bullpen took over with two outs in the fourth and were able to limit the Red Dragons to just one run in the following 4.1 innings. Trevor McCarthy, Casey Piazza and Noah Dilbone combined to strike out four batters and gave up four hits with no walks.

The Green and Gold return to New York, but remain on the road as they head to St. John Fisher College with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
