Lakers Blank New Paltz in SUNYAC Opener

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team defeated New Paltz 1-0 on Friday in both teams' first SUNYAC matchup of the year. With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-1-1 on the season, while New Paltz falls to an even 4-4. It is the first time Oswego starts conference action at 1-0 since Sept. 22, 2006 with a 3-2 win over New Paltz.

Just under an hour into the game, the Lakers broke the scoreless tie. Coach Kane's decision to put Jason Siracuse into the game at 58:35 paid off. A little over thirty seconds after Siracuse entered the game, he crossed the ball to Hassan Musa in front of the goal. Musa beat the goalie to the ball and put it in the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the year. The assist was Siracuse's fourth of the year.

The Lakers were strong defensively and in the net as well. They only allowed three shots on goal from the Hawks. Freshman goalie Brian Terra earned the shutout, his second in a row, now holding a 4-1-0 record.

Oswego will continue SUNYAC play on Saturday, when they host No. 7/8 Oneonta at 1 p.m. at Laker Turf Stadium.
