CORTLAND, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's soccer team traveled to SUNY Cortland on Saturday where they dropped a tough State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game, 4-1.
Brockport now sports an 8-4-3 record and are 3-2-2 in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons move to 13-2 on the year and 7-1 in conference competition.
The Green and Gold did a good job of fending off Cortland's attack in the first half, holding them scoreless for the first 38 minutes of play.
Justin Mercer got the scoring started in the 14th minute, knocking in a well-placed ball by
Chris Shepard. The Red Dragons chipped in a goal in the 39th minute to even the game up at 1-1. The score remained the same as the game went into the break.
The Brockport defense slipped up going into the second half and allowed two goals in the first six minutes to go down 3-1. Offensively, the team did their best to mount a comeback, firing nine shots and creating three corner kicks, but they were unable to convert. Cortland knocked in one more goal in the 73rd minute as the Green and Gold fell 4-1.
"It was a poor result today as we did not play a full 90 minutes," commented head coach
Gary LaPietra. "The timing of the first two goals changed the momentum of the game, but I think moving forward we will be able to bounce back."
The Golden Eagles return to the nest on Friday Oct. 3 when they host Plattsburgh State for a 3 p.m. match up.
