Men's lacrosse tripped up by Oswego at home

Despite holding the visiting Oswego State Lakers scoreless in the final period today, the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team fell at home 11-8.  The setback for Oneonta dropped its overall record to 4-8 and 1-3 in the SUNYAC while the Lakers move to 9-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
 
Junior Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) led the Red Dragon attack with three goals followed by classmate Thomas Moore (Rockville Centre/South Side/Rockville Centre )'s two goals.  Freshman Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) contributed two assists.
 
Junior Bobby Emerson led the Lakers with four goals including an extra man goal.
 
Sophomore Tim Schof got things started with an unassisted goal for Oswego to give them the early 1-0 lead.  Less than two minutes later, Moore evened the score with an unassisted goal for the Red Dragons.
 
Emerson and Mark Niechcial scored consecutively for the Lakers to give Oswego a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period.
 
With the exception of a single goal in the fourth period by Oneonta, all the rest of the scoring in the contest occurred during the middle two periods.  The Lakers posted four goals each in the second and third periods.  The Red Dragons tallied three each in those two periods.  Oswego held a 7-4 advantage after the first half.
 
Panno scored his first of the game to open the second period off an assist from McRae to close the gap to 3-2.
 
The Lakers countered with four unanswered goals each coming from a different player to grab a 7-2 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the second period.  Moore and Panno closed the quarter with back-to-back scores to pull Oneonta to within three goals heading into the break.
 
The two squads took turns exchanging goals throughout the third period with the Lakers increasing its margin to four goals at 11-7 entering the final period.
 
Sophomore Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) made 13 saves in goal for Oneonta while his counterpart, Kevin O'Donnell, made six stops for the Lakers.
 
Oswego outshot Oneonta 39-29 and won 16-of-22 faceoffs.
 
Oneonta will look to keep its playoff hopes alive this Wednesday when they travel to Plattsburgh for a 4pm game.
