Brockport Secures Win Over Oswego With Last Minute Goal

OWSEGO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team edged out State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent Oswego State on Saturday afternoon, winning by a final score of 8-6. The Golden Eagles move to 3-5 (1-0 SUNYAC) on the season, where the Lakers fall to 6-2 (0-1 SUNYAC).

Brockport started hot in the opening quarter as Colton Oliver capitalized early on a man-up advantage to lead 1-0.  After a Laker tying goal, The Golden Eagles netted back-to-back goals from Patrick Sheridan and Oliver in the last minute of the first to lead 3-1.

The Green and Gold kept the intensity up in the second, as Nick Daigle ripped a shot past the keeper to pull away, 4-1. Brockport stumbled late in the quarter and eventually allowed a goal to have the score set at 4-2, heading into halftime.

It was a defensive battle in the third, as both teams allowed a total of six shots on frame. The Lakers were the only team to find the back of the net to cut the deficit to 4-3, heading to the final quarter.

Brockport stumbled in the fourth as they fell behind 5-4, off a pair of goals from Oswego. Liam O' Connor answered for the Green and Gold with back-to-back goals to reclaim the lead, 6-5. The game was eventually tied up, 6-6, when the Lakers tallied a goal with three minutes remaining. After a successful clear attempt, Billy Coppola beat the keeper to take a 7-6 lead with 46 seconds remaining. With still time left on the clock, the Lakers won the following faceoff to give them one chance to tie the game up. Goalie Dallas Meyers stood strong in the cage and make the most crucial save of the contest to ice the victory for Brockport. Sheridan added another goal with six seconds remaining to complete the win for the Golden Eagles as they won, 8-6.

Sheridan and Oliver lead the Brockport offense with two goals each, while O'Connor ended with two goals and two assists. Michael Caternolo took the edge in the faceoff circle, winning 10 of the 18 attempts.

Dallas Meyers played the full 60 minutes ending with 13 saves, with two crucial stops in the last minutes of play.
