ALFRED, NY – The University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team had seven athletes win multiple events and earned two victories in a tri-meet against Alfred University and Fredonia on Saturday afternoon at Alfred.
Rochester won 226.5-64.5 over Fredonia and ousted the host Saxons 196.0-103.0 to improve their record to 3-1 on the season.
Overall, the Yellowjackets had 26 top-3 finishes on the day, and two athletes,
Kevin Liu and
Chris Bushnell each were a part of three wins on the day. Five others came away with two victories, including
Grant Yap,
Raahi Klar-Chaudhuri,
Eric Sonheim,
Trevor Hoch and
Stephen Savchik.
Matt Kiel and
Edward Domanico was the other winner for UR.
Rochester's relays were strong, bookending the meet with wins in the 200 medley relay (Bushnell, Liu, Yap, Klar-Chaudhuri) and the 200 freestyle relay (Liu, Klar-Chaudhuri, Sonheim, Hoch). The medley squad touched in 1:39.90, right ahead of UR's 'B' relay, and the freestyle team finished in 1:28.57.
Bushnell won twice individual events, finishing first in the 100 backstroke in 53.86 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 54.26 seconds. Savchik posted NCAA zone qualifying scores on both boards, earning first place twice. He won the 1-meter with a score of 276.65 and the 3-meter earning 298.30 points. Teammates

Alex Brychcy finished second and third on the 3-meter, completing a 1-2-3 UR finish.
Sonheim's individual win came in the 200 freestyle when he touched in 1:47.71. Liu also won in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.84, beating out teammate
Eric Weidman for the win.
Hoch won the 50 freestyle in 22.27 seconds, while Yap touched first in the 100 free event (49.69 seconds). Kiel followed with a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.46) and Domanico won the 200 IM in 2:01.78.
Rochester's next meet is next Friday at home against Nazareth College.
