The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team matched up well today against No. 23 St. John Fisher and, despite falling 16-11, gave the Cardinals a full 60 minutes. The loss for the Red Dragons was its first of the season putting them at 3-1-1 overall while No. 23 St. John Fisher leaves town 2-1 overall.

Senior Claire Bollin got things started early for St. John Fisher winning the draw and scoring just 23 seconds into the contest. Bollin had a solid day leading the attack with four goals and three assists while also collecting 13 of the Cardinals' 20 draw controls on the day.

Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) knotted the score at 1-1 just over one minute later on a free position goal.

The Cardinals ran off three straight goals in a four-minute span to create some breathing room at 4-1 before a goal by sophomore
Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey) cut the lead in half in the eighth minute.

Fisher took a 6-2 lead on back-to-back goals by Mary Grace Doyle and Morgan young. The Red Dragons countered with a pair of goals from
Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack) and senior
Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) to pull within two goals again.

A pair of late goals by the Cardinals pushed its lead back to four goals before halftime. Bollin posted both goals including the final goal of the half with 10 seconds remaining.

Some great back-and-forth action during the second half by the two teams kept the game tight. Three consecutive goals by Oneonta that covered 2:20 brought them to within 14-11 with less than three minutes left in the game. The Cardinals withstood the push and added two late goals for the final margin of victory.

Casey led Oneonta today with four goals and one assist. Cohen added two goals and one assist.

St. John Fisher had a 38-24 shot advantage and was 14-of-15 on clears. They also held a 20-8 draw advantage including 11-1 in the first half.

Oneonta travels to Hamilton College on Wednesday to face the nationally ranked Continentals.
