Brockport surges past Women’s Lacrosse, 17-8

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Brockport jumped out to early lead and held off a late Buffalo State rally to cruise to a 17-8 victory over the visiting Bengals in a SUNYAC contest this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) led the Bengals with five goals, while Kendall Skuse (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) tallied two goals and two assists.
  • Hannah Nagowski (Lancaster/Lancaster) added two assists.
  • Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) and Tori Debbins (Lancaster/Lancaster) chipped in a goal and an assist respectively.
  • Brockport stormed out of the gates by scoring the first 11 goals and only surrendered a lone Buffalo State goal to take a 11-1 lead at intermission.
  • The Bengals scored the first goal of the second stanza with an unassisted marker from Skuse, but failed to sustain the momentum as the Golden Eagles scored the next four goals to take a 15-2 lead with 18:12 left in the contest.
  • Buffalo State responded by using a late 6-1 run to trim the deficit to 16-8, but could not come any closer as Brockport added an insurance marker with 54 seconds left to complete the win.
  • Janae Nelson (Elmont/Elmont Memorial) matched her highest save total of the season with 17 saves in 60 minutes of action.
  • Brockport held a 16-11 advantage in draw controls while forcing 16 Buffalo State turnovers.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Chloe Kurst and Heather Conklin lead the Golden Eagles with six points each.
  • Morgan Elmer tallied seven saves for the win in net for Brockport.
