GENEVA, N.Y. – William Smith's Alexandra Frary scored early in the first half and the goal held up as the nationally 20th-ranked Herons defeated Cortland, 1-0, in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday night. The Red Dragons fell to 5-3 with the setback, while the Herons improved to 7-2.
For Cortland, junior goalie Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) registered eight saves. Goalie Emily King stopped eight shots for William Smith.
Frary tallied the game-winning goal just 1:52 into the contest when she scored on a rebound after Cortland senior back
Meg Redmond (Accord/Rondout Valley) recorded a defensive save on a shot by Hannah Wood following a penalty corner. Redmond finished the game with two defensive saves.
