ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oswego State volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 losses on Saturday during SUNYAC Round Robin play. The Lakers lost to New Paltz by scores of 25-15, 25-23, and 25-20. Later in the afternoon, SUNY Geneseo dealt them a 25-22, 25-21, 25-9 defeat. Oswego's record falls to 11-15 overall and 4-5 in conference. New Paltz improves to 16-9 (6-2 SUNYAC) and Geneseo goes to 19-9 (7-2 SUNYAC).
In the match against New Paltz, freshman
Melissa Lussier led the squad with seven kills. Senior
Rina Qelaj had a match-high 15 digs while junior
Alison Sullivan also had a match-high four blocks.Â
Against Geneseo, sophomore
Lauren Fie was the offensive leader with seven kills. Sophomore
Julia Flohr had a double-double with 11 assists and 12 digs.Â
Sarah Massie tied Flohr for the team-lead in digs with 12.
Although Oswego tied both Oneonta and Cortland at 4-5 in conference, the Lakers lose the tie-breaker due to set percentage. The Lakers defeated Oneonta 3-1 two weeks ago, but the 3-0 loss to Cortland and Cortland's 3-0 loss to Oneonta, gave Oneonta the best set percentage among the three tied teams. The last spot in the playoff then went to Cortland based on the head-to-head decision between the Lakers and Red Dragons.
Oswego will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Express of Wells College at 7 p.m. in Max Ziel Arena.
