Nicholson and Bond Earn Baseball Athlete of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its baseball athlete of the week, Brandon Nicholson from Oswego and Thomas Bond of Oneonta as the pitcher of the week for the week of February 19.

Nicholson was a force to be reckoned with in his first weekend as a Laker, driving in 10 runs in three games. Nicholson's grand slam in Oswego's 14-8 win over Susquehanna on Sunday helped the Lakers to score their most runs in a single game since April 27, 2016. His 4 RBI were a game-high, and his patience at the plate earned him two walks as well. The second baseman continued his offensive dominance in the Lakers' second game on Sunday. Going a perfect 3-for-3, Nicholson hit another home run and ultimately drove in five runs for the Lakers. The Orchard Park native also scored two runs and drove in one of Oswego's 8-7 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.

In a game against Desales University, Bond tossed six strong innings, only allowing one run on two hits, helping the Red Dragons secure a 5-1 victory. Bond had four strikeouts and did not walk one batter, earning himself the win.

Oneonta will travel to Virginia on Saturday to face Bridgewater College for a doubleheader against the Eagles.
