Lakers Headed to Cape Cod for NCAA Championship

Oswego Sports Information Department

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The national-ranked and SUNYAC Champion Oswego State baseball team has earned the second seed in the New England Regional of the NCAA Division III Championship. Massachusetts Maritime Academy is hosting the New England Regional in Harwich, Mass. at Whitehouse Field – home of the Cape Cod Baseball League's Harwich Mariners.

As the No. 2 seed, Oswego will play the final game of the first day, taking on seventh-seeded Suffolk University at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Oswego and Suffolk have met one time previously, with the Lakers upending the Rams 11-4 at the 2012 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational during head coach Scott Landers' first season at the helm of the program. Thursday's winner will face the winner of third-seeded Keystone College and No. 6 Mitchell College at 8 p.m. on Friday. The losers of Keystone/Mitchell and Oswego/Suffolk will play an elimination game at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Oswego is making its fourth-straight NCAA Championship appearance after winning the SUNYAC Championship title over Cortland to earn the league's automatic bid. Overall, it is the program's ninth appearance at the national tournament and it comes on the heels of the Lakers' first-ever berth in the College World Series in 2017.

The Lakers' offense is powered by SUNYAC Player of the Year Mike Dellicarri. A junior, Dellicarri batted .372 on the year and led the team with 55 hits, 49 runs, 47 RBI, 6 home runs and 5 triples. Senior designated hitter Myles Kutscher is just one percentage point behind Dellicarri in the batting average column while classmate John Barnesis hitting .331 while manning center field. Those three offensive juggernauts made All-SUNYAC teams last week along with Laker ace Robert Donnelly. The senior leads the team with a 1.39 ERA and 48 strikeouts while also spending time at shortstop when not starting on the rubber.
