CORTLAND N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Kevin Yirinec (Fairport, N.Y.) of Fredonia and Robert Ottaviano (Nanuet, N.Y.) of Oneonta as this week's Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week.
Yirinec opened the season with three home runs in four games as Fredonia went 2-2 in Myrtle Beach. He went 3-5 with two home runs and five RBIs in a 16-1 win on Opening Day for the Blue Devils. He finished the weekend going 5-12 with three homeruns, seven RBIs, and two walks. Yirinec looks to stay hot as Fredonia takes on Oneonta down in Florida this weekend.
Ottaviano tossed seven shutout innings in a 9-3 win over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday. The senior held them to just four hits while striking out 11 batters to earn his first win of the season. Ottaviano and Oneonta look to rack up some wins this week in Florida as they play four non-conference games and three SUNYAC games.
