Cortland baseball takes home Athlete and Pitcher of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Cortland's Joe Tardiff (Cutchogue, N.Y.) and his teammate, Zack Durant (Verona, N.Y.) as the SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week.

Tardif batted .643 (9-for-14) with a double, triple, five RBI and an .857 slugging percentage in five games during Cortland's spring break trip to Georgia. He was a combined 6-for-8 with a triple and three RBI in the Red Dragons' three-game sweep of Plattsburgh to open Cortland's SUNYAC schedule. Tardiff raises his overall average to .269 after a strong spring break trip and the Red Dragons look to stay hot in conference play this weekend when Oneonta comes to town.

Durant pitched seven hitless and scoreless innings in Cortland's 9-0 win versus Plattsburgh to open the Red Dragons' three-game SUNYAC series with the Cardinals. He struck out six batters and walked three, but his bid for a no-hitter ended when he was pulled from the nine-inning game after seven frames due to his 101-pitch count and the game ended as a one-hit combined shutout.
