First 2021 SUNYAC baseball weekly awards released

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selected Scott Giordano of Cortland as the first 2021 Baseball Athlete of the Week and New Paltz's Anthony Amoroso as the Pitcher of the Week.

Giordano homered in each game of Cortland's home doubleheader sweep vs. Alfred State Friday. He hit safely in all four of the Red Dragons' games during the first week of the season, finishing the week at .438 (7-for-16) with two homers, two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored.

Amoroso went six innings in a 6-1 season opening win over Skidmore Sunday on the road. He gave up just two hits, and only two walks, while striking out five and gave up no runs for the shutout victory. His ERA is 0.00 with a WHIP of .67 with opposing batters hitting .100 against him on Sunday. With a young bullpen, he was relied on heavily to go extended innings and did so.
