Michalski and McGowan Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has recognized Cortland's Andrew Michalski as its Baseball Athlete of the Week and Brockport's Matt McGowan as the Pitcher of the Week.

Michalski batted .727 (8-for-11 with a double, walk and five RBI during Cortland's four-game home-and-home sweep of New Paltz. In a home doubleheader Saturday, Michalski was a combined 5-for-5 with a walk and three RBI, including what proved to be the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning in Game 2 to cap a three-run rally, in the Red Dragons' 4-3 victory. The following day he went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a 17-1 road win over the Hawks. At second base he committed just one error in 21 total chances and played a role in four Cortland defensive double plays.

McGowan (1-0) proved to be solid on the mound all week for the Golden Eagles who have now won nine straight. McGowan made his first appearance in the fifth inning as the closer against RIT, earning the save. He struck out one batter and did not allow any runs or hits in two innings without walking anyone. Later in the week he was given the ball to start for Brockport against Fredonia, striking out a season-high eight batters in an 8-1 win. In five innings he allowed just two hits and gave up no runs, which keeps his ERA at 0.00 for the season. Brockport is now 12-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
