Gibaldi and DeDie picked as Field Hockey Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the recipients for the weekly field hockey awards. Cortland senior Jess Gibaldi has been chosen as the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Brockport senior Adriana DeDie is the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Gibaldi helped lead the 18th-ranked Red Dragons to a pair of non-conference wins last week, totaling seven points on three goals and one assist. She opened the week with a pair of first-half goals in a 4-1 victory at Houghton on Wednesday and recorded a goal and an assist in a 5-0 home win versus Misericordia on Saturday. Gibaldi currently leads Cortland (4-2) in scoring with 12 points on a team-high five goals and two assists.

Meanwhile, DeDie had a strong week for the Golden Eagles, starting with her appearance in the team's 4-0 loss against the University of Rochester (5-0). The senior recorded 13 saves on 26 shots faced; one of those saves included a diving save on a penalty stroke. The senior then recorded a win on Sunday against Sage College, where she recorded a shutout with two saves. DeDie currently has a .755 save percentage after five games played, and ranks second in the SUNYAC in saves with 37.
