Gibaldi, Jones named Field Hockey Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference has selected the recipients for its weekly field hockey awards. Cortland senior Jess Gibaldi has been tabbed as the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Oneonta junior Danell Jones has the honors of Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Gibaldi helped lead Cortland (7-3, 1-0 SUNYAC) to a pair of home wins last week, totaling 11 points on four goals and three assists. In a 3-0 victory versus Oswego on Wednesday, Gibaldi scored two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on a third. She then picked up two goals and two assists, all in the first half, in a 5-2 triumph versus Utica on Saturday. For the season, Gibaldi leads the Red Dragons in goals (10), assists (7) and points (27), is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals and is closing in on 100 career points (40-13-93). 

Meanwhile, junior goalkeeper Jones recorded two wins this past week including a shutout against SUNYAC foe Morrisville State. Jones earned a .875 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average.
