Q&A: Jess Gibaldi

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) did its Q&A with this week's Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week, Jess Gibaldi. This is Gibaldi's second SUNYAC weekly honor in three weeks.

Gibaldi helped lead Cortland (7-3, 1-0 SUNYAC) to a pair of home wins last week, totaling 11 points on four goals and three assists. In a 3-0 victory versus Oswego on Wednesday, Gibaldi scored two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on a third. She then picked up two goals and two assists, all in the first half, in a 5-2 triumph versus Utica on Saturday. For the season, Gibaldi leads the Red Dragons in goals (10), assists (7) and points (27), is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals and is closing in on 100 career points (40-13-93).

Q&A:

  1. Which professional athlete do you have the most respect for? Definitely have to go with Henrik Lundqvist, the goalie for the New York Rangers. Grew up watching him play- a great player on and off the ice.
  2. What's your game day meal? I always have toast and two eggs over easy with my Dunkin' coffee, also definitely goldfish in the locker room.
  3. What age did you start playing your sport? I started playing field hockey in 5th grade, so I was about 10.
  4. Do you have a hidden or special talent? I am pretty good at burping very loud.
  5. What is your career goal? To work for a sports-related / fashion company in NYC!
  6. What's on your music playlist? Pretty much only rap songs, definitely have the new Lil Wayne album there.
  7. Do you have any pre-game rituals? Just getting pumped up with my team, and wearing the same headband for every game.
  8. What's the best advice anyone has given you? Leave it all out there every time you step on the field because you're never going to get that game/moment back- don't have any regrets.
  9. What are your hobbies off the field/court? Definitely love to shop and play with my dog.
  10. What's your favorite memory since playing for your institution? Definitely being SUNYAC champions last season!!
