Bilow, Ackerman earn Field Hockey Athlete of the Week honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its weekly awards for field hockey. Oneonta sophomore Grace Bilow is the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while New Paltz senior Samantha Ackerman is the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Bilow helped lead Oneonta to two SUNYAC wins this past week with seven points. Bilow started her week with a goal and an assist in a thrilling 4-3 win over Cortland. She then assisted on the game-winner against Cortland in the 67th minute. Bilow capped the week off with a pair of goals in a 5-0 victory over Oswego on Saturday.

Ackerman helped lead the Hawks to two wins over Oswego and Cortland over the weekend. She led the defense to a 3-0 shutout over the Lakers, while also recording an assist in the game, and propelling her team to a dramatic 2-1 win over the Red Dragons, totaling a goal, an assist and a defensive save in the game. She also was key in the last five minutes of the match where the Hawks played two-players down due to yellow cards, not allowing Cortland a shot on goal in the stretch to hold on to a 2-1 lead, resulting in New Paltz's first regular season win over the Red Dragons in program history.
