Welsh, Devine win field hockey weekly honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named Cortland's Jessica Welsh as its Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week and Brockport's Kelsey Devine the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Welsh, a senior from Hamilton, N.Y., notched three goals last week for the Red Dragons. In a 3-1 home win versus St. Lawrence on Wednesday, Welsh scored the game-winning goal at 55:47 and added an insurance goal with 4:58 remaining in the game. In a 2-2 game at Skidmore on Saturday that was not officially completed and is currently considered "no contest," Welsh scored Cortland's first goal 1:22 after halftime. For the season, she has 14 points on five goals and four assists.

Devine, from Clarence, N.Y., added another defensive save this week to end her senior season as the SUNYAC leader in defensive saves with 12 overall. Not only did she lead the conference, but once she hit 11 defensive saves, she was tied for third in the country in Division III field hockey.
