SUNYAC selects Field Hockey Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New  York Athletic Conference has selected New Paltz's Jessica Ascencao (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) and Geneseo's Julia Kim (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) as this week's PrestoSports Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.

Ascencao scored the Hawks' second goal in a 4-3 overtime win against Skidmore Sept. 18. She then scored the game-winning in overtime Saturday, Sept. 21 against No. 16 University of Rochester, burying a penalty stroke seven minutes into extra time. Ascencao was also crucial for the Hawks defensively, as they played with a man-down for nearly five minutes in overtime due to a late card.

Kim anchored a Geneseo defense which only allowed one goal in a pair of victories last week. The Knights held host Nazareth to seven shots in a 3-1 win on Wednesday before limiting visiting Ithaca to four shots in a 1-0 shutout on Saturday. Kim also scored the lone goal in the win over the Bombers, finishing a penalty corner in the 24th minute to push Geneseo to its fifth victory in six outings.
