Cortland senior midfielder Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) and graduate student defender Madison Rice (Greene/Greene Central) have been named 2024 Division III All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Corrigan is a first team honoree, while Rice was selected to the third team.
Corrigan earns her second All-America award from the NFHCA, after earning second team honors in 2023. She is the 12th Cortland player since 1984 to earn multiple NFHCA All-America certificates, and the first since Christine McCabe (2007-09).
Last week, Corrigan was selected as the NFHCA Region 3 Player of the Year, the first Red Dragon to claim the award since it was first given out in 2009. She is also a four-time first team all-region selection, a four-time first team all-conference honoree, and a two-time State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Offensive Player of the Year winner.
Corrigan started all 20 games for Cortland in 2024, scoring 41 points on 18 goals and five assists, and netted four game-winning goals. Corrigan also registered six multi-goal games for the Red Dragons on the year, and tied for 21st nationally in goals per game.
Rice earns her first NFHCA All-America award, and is a two-time first team all-region selection, a four-time All-SUNYAC honoree, and a two-time SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year winner.
Rice started all 20 games for the Red Dragons, captaining the Cortland back line that posted a goals-against average of 0.79 for this season, the best mark in the conference and sixth-best mark in the nation. She also helped Cortland keep 10 shutouts, and held opponents to one goal or fewer in 18 of 20 contests. Rice is also the first Cortland player to win the conference's defensive player of the year award in back-to-back seasons.
Cortland finished the year with an overall record of 18-2, and the Red Dragons claimed their third consecutive SUNYAC conference championship and earned their fourth straight NCAA Division III tournament appearance. In two conference tournament games, Corrigan scored three goals and added an assist to earn SUNYAC Tournament MVP honors. Meanwhile, Rice helped Cortland hold the opposition to just one goal in two conference tournament games. The Red Dragons advanced to the NCAA second round after a 2-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan in the first round and finished tied for ninth nationally.
