Oswego wins SUNYAC men's basketball title

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Top seeded Oswego won its seventh State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball championship with a 75-70 win over Oneonta, Saturday. The Lakers earned an automatic bid into the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.

Senior Brian Sortino was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, tallying 27 points, five assists and four rebounds in the championship to follow-up a 48-point performance in the semifinal on Friday.

Lawrence Coleman had 23 points for Oneonta in the championship game and was slected to the All-Tournament team.

Oswego's Patrick Caruso was recognized as inaugural award winner of the SUNYAC Elite 20 for the women's basketball championship. The award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
