Plattsburgh Takes Home NABC Honors

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2018 NABC Coaches' Division III All-District teams and coaches, recognizing the best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division, selected by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division III. 

In his 15th season at the helm of Plattsburgh State Tom Curle has been named NABC Coach of the Year for the East Region.

Curle coached the Cardinals to a 25-5 overall record sending them to their tenth NCAA DIII appearance and they set a new program record of 21 consecutive wins.

He has been the all-time winningest Cardinals' coach in both wins and winning percentage which continues to increase after all the success he had during the 2017-2018 season.

Curle picked up his fourth SUNYAC Coach of the Year honor earlier this year as he guided the Cardinals to their seventh SUNYAC title.

Junior forward Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) picks up the NABC Player of the Year for the East Region and was named to First Team All-Region.

Patron avenged 23.7 pointers per game and picking up 10.4 rebounds per game, was named the SUNYAC player of the year and picked up his third All-Conference accolade as he was tabbed to the first team after leading the conference in both points per game (22.8) and rebounds per game (10.1).

He was also a SUNYAC player of the week four times and named to D3hoops.com team of the week once.

He double-doubled 11 times in his 21 games played and started 19.

Patron picked up many career milestones along the way this season including hitting 1000 points on January 26, 2018, in the Cardinals 100-71 win over New Paltz.

He was named the SUNYAC tournament's Most Valuable Player after scoring a career-high 41 points in the championship game and 35 points in the semifinal game.

Patron recorded 16 field goals to break the SUNYAC tournament record for most field goals made in a game.

He picked up a career-high 18 rebounds in Plattsburgh States 87-75 victory over Union College in the final game of the first round of the NCAA DIII tournament.

Senior guard Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) was named to second team All-East Region.

Bryant averaged 15.8 points per game, 3.4 assists per game, had 39 steals and shot 84.7% in free throws in the 28 games he played.

Bryant hit a career milestone by recording his 1000th point on Feb. 17, 2018, and was chosen as SUNYAC player of the week after.

He scored a career-high 30 points against Geneseo, recorded a career-high nine assists against Potsdam and picked up a career-high of eight rebounds against Cortland.

He picked up his second All-Conference distinction as he received first-team honors as well.
