SUNYAC Selects Men’s Ice Hockey Athletes for the Week

Cortland, NY- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its Athlete, Goalie, and Rookie of the Week for Men's Ice Hockey.  This week's Athlete of the Week is senior Sam Wilbur from Fredonia, Goalie of the Week is freshman Jimmy Poreda from Plattsburgh, and Rookie of the Week is freshman Ryan Dunner from Fredonia.

Sam Wilbur had a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-1 SUNYAC home win over Morrisville State. He added an assist in Saturday's 6-2 win. Wilbur's season-long output now consists of a team-leading 27 points in 24 games. His 11 goals and 16 assists also lead the Blue Devils. In conference games only, Wilbur has 8 goals and 10 assists. His 18 points rank seventh in the conference.

Poreda backstopped the Cardinals to a 1-0-1 record during the week to help them qualify as the No. 4 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. He turned aside 24 shots on Friday in a 2-2 overtime tie against Cortland before posting his third shutout of the season on Saturday, making 35 saves in a 1-0 victory over No. 3/4 Oswego. For the year, Poreda has a .916 save percentage and a 2.59 goals-against average. 

The forward player, Dunner had his first collegiate multi-point game with three assists in Saturday's 6-2 SUNYAC home win over Morrisville State. He also had a goal in Friday's 5-1, his second straight game with a goal after waiting for 17 games to score his first. He has at least one point in three straight games.
