Tolan, Mobley and Garnier Honored with SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Accolades
SYRACUSE, N.Y – The SUNYAC picks Buffalo State's David Tolan as its Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week while Cortland teammates Ronan Mobley and Nathan Garnier are the Goaltender and Rookie of the Week repsectively.
Tolan paced the Bengals in a pair of SUNYAC wins over the weekend while scoring a goal in each matchup against Oswego and Canton. In Friday's overtime win over Oswego, Tolan scored the game-tying goal in the third period before Buffalo State earned the win in overtime. In Saturday's win over Canton, Tolan scored the game-winning goal in overtime to keep Buffalo State's unbeaten conference record intact.
Mobley had a strong weekend in goal, leading Cortland to a pair of SUNYAC victories on the road, recording a .927 save percentage and 1.50 GAA. In a 3-1 victory over Plattsburgh on Friday evening, Mobley stopped 21-of-22 shots, helping the Red Dragons hold the Cardinals to one goal or less for just the second time in their series history. On Saturday, Mobley stopped 17-of-19 shots as Cortland defeated Potsdam 4-2, including making a pair of crucial stops in the final minutes with the Red Dragons holding to a one-goal advantage.
Garnier played a crucial role in a 2-0 weekend for Cortland in SUNYAC action, scoring two goals, including a game-winning goal, and posting an on-ice rating of (+1). In Friday's 3-1 win over Plattsburgh, the freshman netted Cortland's game winning goal in the first period, sniping a wrist shot just inside the right post. He then added a power-play goal in the second period to secure the victory. In a 4-2 win over Potsdam on Saturday, Garnier was on the ice for Cortland's opening goal of the game.
