2018 SUNYAC men's lacrosse coaches poll

CORTLAND, NY- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the men's lacrosse preseason coaches poll for the 2018 season. Cortland is the favorite to win this year's SUNYAC Championship, receiving all seven first-place votes, tallying 49 points.

Last year, Cortland under the helm of Steve Beville had another outstanding year going 17-3 (6-0 SUNYAC). The Red Dragons won the regular season title but lost in the tournament title game to Plattsburgh. Cortland was awarded an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament where they ended up falling to RIT in the quarterfinals, 15-9. Cortland will open their season February 27 with a trip to Scranton. 

The Plattsburgh Cardinals have been voted second by the coaches with a total of 42 points. Last season, the Cardinals finished with a 12-6 (5-1 SUNYAC). Finishing second to Cortland in the regular season, but upending them in the finals, 10-6, winning their first SUNYAC championship in program history. They received a bye to the second round in the NCAA tournament where they lost to Bates 23-10. The Cardinals will start their season on February 28 vs. Castleton.

Brockport finished third in the poll with 30 points. Last year the Golden Eagles finished the season 8-6 (4-2 SUNYAC) which earned them the third seed in the SUNAYC tournament. In the tournament semifinals, they lost to Plattsburgh, 8-7, to end their season. Brockport will open away on March 10 at Keuka.
