Cortland and Potsdam awarded with Men's Lacrosse Weekly honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Cortland's Brian Williams as Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week (Holtsville, NY,) and Potsdam's Zach Sheridan (Clay, N.Y.) as Goalie of the Week.

Williams dominated the face-off X in a pair of key road conference wins last week for Cortland (9-4, 4-0 SUNYAC). In a 13-10 victory at Geneseo on Wednesday, he won 21-of-25 faceoffs and collected 11 ground balls. Williams then won 22-of-23 faceoffs and scooped up a career-high 20 ground balls in a 17-5 win at Oneonta on Saturday. For the two games, he won 43-of-48 faceoffs and recorded an .896 winning percentage with 31 ground balls. For the season, Williams has won 177-of-277 face-offs (.639) and secured 128 ground balls.

Sheridan had the best week of his collegiate career as he and the Bears went 1-1. Potsdam's captain posted a 7.50 goals-against-average, a .737 save percentage and made 42 saves. In an 11-9 loss to Oswego on Wednesday, Sheridan made a personal best 20 saves. He topped the performance with 22 in a 5-4 win over Brockport on Saturday. His final save came with about 10 seconds to go as he stopped a potential game-tying attempt by the Golden Eagles. Sheridan ranks third in the SUNYAC in saves (148) and save percentage (.567) this season.
