Oneonta and Cortland take home men's lacrosse weekly awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Stephen Panno (Holtsville, N.Y.) from Oneonta and Marc Esposito (West Babylon, N.Y.) from Cortland as our Men's Lacrosse Athlete and Goalie of the Week.

Panno celebrated his last home game this past Saturday by having a career day scoring nine goals to lead the men's lacrosse team past Potsdam 18-7. The nine goals for Panno tied the second most all time in a game, done back in 1981. By the end of the game, Panno was up to 48 goals for the season, which is the most for any player since 2002. Panno currently leads the team in scoring with 56 points on 48 goals and eight assists.

Esposito helped lead Cortland to a pair of home wins last week, posting a 2-0 record with a 3.97 GAA, 21 saves, a .750 save percentage and seven ground balls. In a 12-5victory versus Ithaca on Wednesday, Esposito made seven saves and collected three ground balls. He then tied his career high with 14 saves, allowing just two goals and securing four ground balls in 45:55 of action as the Red Dragons defeated Brockport, 15-7, on Saturday to clinch the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament. For the season, Esposito has a 5-0 record with a 6.44 GAA, 80 saves and a .672 save percentage.
