Cortland Sweeps Men's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has picked Cortland's Pat Doyen to be the Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week while teammate Marc Esposito was tabbed the Goalie of the Week for the third time in 2021.

Doyen helped lead Cortland (6-3, 3-1 SUNYAC West) to a 3-0 record at home last week, scoring 14 points on seven goals and seven assists while adding six ground balls. In a 19-5 win versus Brockport on Tuesday, he tallied one goal, which proved to be the game-winner, and three assists with two ground balls. Doyen then recorded six points on four goals and two assists, including the game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter, as the Red Dragons earned a 14-13 come-from-behind victory versus Geneseo on Friday. Doyen finished off his week with two goals and two assists in a 21-5 win over Oneonta on Sunday. For the season, he ranks third on the team in scoring with 22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists.

Esposito posted a 3-0 record with a 5.57 GAA, a .600 save percentage and six ground balls in three home games last week for the Red Dragons (6-3, 3-1 SUNYAC West). In a 19-5 victory versus Brockport on Tuesday, he stopped five shots and allowed just three goals in three quarters of play in the cage. In a come-from-behind 14-13 victory against Geneseo on Friday, Esposito allowed five goals against in 22:38 before being replaced midway through the second quarter. He re-entered the game at the 1:38 mark of the third quarter with Cortland trailing, 12-8, and finished the game by making four saves and allowing just one goal as the Red Dragons earned the win. On Sunday, he held Oneonta scoreless for the first 41:46 of the game while recording an assist of his own, finishing with seven saves and letting up just three goals through three quarters. For the season, Esposito has posted a 6-3 record with an 8.41 GAA, 93 saves and a .585 save percentage.
