Oneonta's Ventura and Giordano named men's soccer SUNYAC Athletes of the Week

Cortland, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected two Oneonta Red Dragons as this week's Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week. Freshman midfielder, Roberto Ventura, has been chosen as Offensive Athlete of the Week, and junior goalkeeper, Nicholas Giordano, has been selected as Defensive Athlete of the Week. The teammates helped lead Oneonta to a 2-0 record for the week as they beat conference opponents Geneseo and Brockport at home.

Ventura tallied a pair of goals, one of which being the game-winner against Geneseo in the 4-1 victory. Those goals extended his streak to seven games of scoring at least one goal, which is the second longest goal streak in program history. Ventura currently leads the Red Dragons with eight goals for the season.

Giordano captured his second men's soccer SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week of the season as he recorded two wins this weekend in conference play including a shutout in a 1-0 victory over Brockport. Giordano also made a career high ten saves in their 4-1 win over Geneseo.

Oneonta is 7-1-1 on the season and continues SUNYAC play this weekend when they host Plattsburgh and Potsdam.
