CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected two Potsdam Bears as the Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week. Alejandro Callejas has been awarded the Offensive Athlete of the Week and Jakeb Mitchell has been awarded the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Callejas has won this award two weeks in a row thanks to his recent scoring streak. He scored two goals during the week, both instrumental to Potsdam's 2-0 record. His first goal was against Hobart, Callejas tied the game for the Bears in the 63rd minute before they went on to win the match 2-1. Callejas' second goal of the week was a game-winner in the 99th minute vs. RPI to give Postdam a 1-0 OT win.
Mitchell, the junior goalkeeper, was outstanding during the week allowing one goal on 16 shots. He saved eight shots and allowed one goal in the 2-1 win vs. Hobart and held a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against RPI, saving all 7 shots. Mitchell is now fourth on Postdam's all-time wins list with 12.
