Hernandez, Kelly receive Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week honors

CORTLAND N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its weekly award winners for men's soccer. Oneonta junior Witman Hernandez is the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Cortland junior Sean Kelly is recognized as the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Hernandez exploded for four goals while adding one assist to lead Oneonta to a 7-1 rout of Potsdam this past Saturday. Hernandez's outburst made him the 13th player in program history to record four goals in a game and the first since 2009. The junior's nine points in the match made him only the fourth player in program history to reach that mark, the first since 1986.

Meanwhile, Kelly helped lead ninth-ranked Cortland to a pair of home conference wins last week as the Red Dragons improved to 12-1-2 overall and 6-1 in the SUNYAC. Kelly made seven saves and posted shutouts versus Fredonia and Buffalo St. In a 1-0 victory over the Blue Devils on Friday, Kelly registered five second-half saves as he denied three point-blank attempts by Fredonia to post the shutout. He followed with two saves, including a diving stop in the 69th minute to hold the Bengals off the scoreboard, in a 2-0 win on Saturday. For the season, Kelly has posted an 11-0-2 record with a 0.37 goals against average, an .889 save percentage and 10 shutouts.
