Ruggiero, Terra claim Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference has selected its weekly awards for men's soccer. Cortland freshman Anthony Ruggiero is the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Oswego sophomore Brian Terra has been recognized as the Defenisve Athlete of the Week.

Ruggiero, a native of Holtsville, N.Y., scored two goals on two shots in Cortland's 3-2 overtime at Brockport on Saturday as the Red Dragons improved to 14-1-2 overall and 8-1 in the SUNYAC. He gave Cortland a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute with his third goal of the season and made it a 2-0 score in the 52nd minute with his fourth goal. For the season, the freshman has 10 points on four goals and two assists. 

Terra, who comes from Lake Grove, N.Y., recorded two penalty-kick saves to help the Lakers to a 1-0-1 weekend. In Friday's 2-1 victory at Brockport, The sophomore recorded 12 saves, one of which was a penalty-kick in the 72nd minute. On Saturday, Terra helped the Lakers to tie a favored Geneseo team 0-0 in double overtime. He recorded two saves in regulation, one that came in the 89th minute, on a Knights' penalty-kick, and two in each overtime period.
