CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Junior Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) scored two goals and senior Migell Ormsby (Kingston, Jamaica/Dewitt Clinton(NY) scored a goal and collected an assist as the Red Dragons defeated the Nighthawks of Newbury College 3-1. With the win, Cortland advances to the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.

Cortland pressured Newbury for much of the first half, eventually creating an excellent chance in the 36th minute. Ormsby collected his own rebound on the right side of the box after a Nighthawk blocked his initial shot and fired a low shot just wide of the left post. The Red Dragons broke through in the 39th minute. Ormsby played a through ball to Keller who ran in unmarked on Tran. Keller's first shot was blocked, but he gathered the rebound and sent a shot under a Newbury defender into the open goal.

The Nighthawks finally found their stride in the second half. In the 63rd minute, Rony Morales (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) took a free kick from the right side of Cortland's goal which was received by Josue Lopez (San Diego, CA/San Ysidro) and struck past Cortland goalkeeper Sean Kelly (Coram/Newfield) for the Nighthawks first goal. Nearly two minutes later, Cortland struck back with a goal of their own when Ormsby received a pass from Eli Yasuna (Sherborn, MA/Dover-Sherborn) and sent a one-time shot into the back of Newbury's goal, giving the Red Dragon's a 2-1 lead.

Cortland cemented their lead in the 81st minute with Jake Keller's second goal of the game, a one-time shot following a pass from Sam Fuller (Liverpool). Neither team had any scoring opportunities in the closing minutes. Newbury goalkeeper Chris Tran (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) finished the game with 10 saves, Kelly finished the game with one save.
