First men's track & field weekly awards of 2021 released

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Cortland's Aaron Jones and Brockport's Tony DeYoung as the first 2021 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Jones, the Track Athlete of the Week, won the 110-meter hurdles (15.00) and the 200-meter dash (22.37), and anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay (43.03), at the Cortland Cup. His hurdles performance currently ranks 13th nationally in Division III and first in the Atlantic Region, and the relay is ranked 35th nationally and second in the region. Jones ranks fifth regionally in the 200 meters from a previous effort.

DeYoung, the Field Athlete of the Week, had a strong start to his 2021 campaign with three top five finishes, including two event wins. The thrower won the shot put event with a first place throw of 15.19 meters. DeYoung took home first in the discus as well with a distance of 46.79. meters. He then snagged fourth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.38 meters, while the Brockport throwers took the top four spots in the event. The Golden Eagles finished second as a team at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational this past weekend with 173 points.
